Have you ever heard the term urination? This condition makes a person uncomfortable when urinating. Because there are some people who also feel pain when urinating. In the medical world, urination is also known as dysuria.

Dysuria can be used as an indicator of your health problems. Because some diseases can be characterized by the appearance of dysuria. Well, for that, let's discuss more fully what are the causes, symptoms and how to treat dysuria.

What is Dysuria?

Dysuria, also known as voiding, is a medical condition characterized by pain, discomfort or burning sensation when urinating. Dysuria can occur in both men and women, but is more common in women. It is often a sign of an underlying health problem, such as infection or inflammation of the urinary tract.

Causes of Dysuria (Urination)

In fact, dysuria is not a disease. Rather, it is a sign or symptom of several health problems. Here are the causes of dysuria that you should know:

1. Urinary tract infection (UTI)

Urinary tract infection is the most common cause of dysuria. This infection occurs when bacteria enter the urinary tract and cause inflammation. Other symptoms include frequent urination, cloudy urine, and an unpleasant urine odor.

2. Kidney stones

Kidney stones are hard deposits formed from minerals and salts in the kidneys. When kidney stones move into the urinary tract, they can cause pain and dysuria. Additional symptoms include sharp pain in the back or side of the body and blood in the urine.

3. Ovarian Cysts

In women, ovarian cysts can cause dysuria. These cysts are fluid-filled sacs that develop on the ovaries. In addition to dysuria, ovarian cysts can cause pelvic pain, bloating and menstrual irregularities.

4. Prostate Infection

In men, prostate infection (prostatitis) can cause dysuria. Prostatitis can be caused by bacteria and can cause symptoms such as pain in the lower abdomen, difficulty urinating, and pain during ejaculation.

5. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

Some STIs, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can cause dysuria. These STIs are often accompanied by other symptoms such as abnormal vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, and genital itching.

6. Cystitis

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder that is often caused by a bacterial infection. Symptoms of cystitis include frequent urination, pelvic pain, and cloudy or strong smelling urine.

Symptoms of Dysuria (Urination)

The main symptom of dysuria is pain or discomfort when urinating. Additional symptoms that may accompany dysuria depend on the underlying cause and may include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Cloudy or foul smelling urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Pelvic or lower abdominal pain
  • Back or side pain
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge (in women)
  • Difficulty urinating (in men)

How to Treat Dysuria (Vaginal Discharge)

The treatment of dysuria depends on the underlying cause. Here are some steps that can be taken to treat and prevent dysuria:

  1. Drink more water according to the recommendation of 2.5 liters per day to increase the frequency of urination and make it easier for bacteria to be wasted with urine.
  2. Do not neglect and delay urination which can actually cause bacteria to develop more easily.
  3. It can be relieved by applying warm water compresses on the lower abdomen for 15 minutes 3-4 times a day.
  4. Pay attention to food and beverage intake and avoid triggers such as spicy foods, minimal alcohol, acids, artificial sweeteners and caffeine.

Prevention of Dysuria

Some preventive measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of dysuria include:

  1. Drinking enough water every day
  2. Maintain personal hygiene, especially after urinating or defecating
  3. Avoiding products that can irritate the urinary tract, such as scented soaps or feminine hygiene sprays
  4. Using water-based lubricants during sexual intercourse to reduce irritation
  5. Micturate after intercourse to remove bacteria from the urinary tract

By understanding the causes and symptoms of dysuria and taking appropriate steps to address them, you can better manage this condition and prevent more serious complications. (Aq/PRT)
